AIR RELIEF VALVE TESTING AND REPAIR

We carry a full range of air relief valves used in the marine and offshore oil industry.
D.O.T. regulations (administered by the U.S. Coast Guard) specify that all air relief valves used in marine vessels must be tested annually and tagged as being in compliance. We test and certify valves at our facility or on the vessel. Valves are typically found on the "ships air" system (the air system used for the operation of the vessel itself) and auxiliary systems (a seperate system usually used to transfer products such as cement and/or barite powder into or out of pressure tanks in the vessel). Valves may be located on the compressors, on the air receivers or p-tanks, or inline at other locations.
Depending on how much time the vessel has at the dock, we may either test and certify the valves while on the vessel or replace them with certified valves carried with us to the boat. Any valves that will not test will be taken to our facility to be repaired and re-certified.
The U.S. Coast Guard also inspects oilfield support facilities located along the Gulf of Mexico coast and on inland waterways. Many of those facilities have compressed air systems for pumping materials onto marine vessels. Those systems must have the relief valves tested and certified annually as well. We test and certify the air relief valves used on those air systems. As on marine vessels, we may test the valves on site and re-certify those that test and replace the ones that do not. Those that do not will be taken to our facility and repaired and re-certified or junked if irrepairable.
All certified valves have a metal tag affixed that records the pressure the valve should relieve, the date the valve was put in service, and a serial number. In addition, a test document that lists all the valves placed in service on that date along with the test pressure and serial number is written up, signed by the technician involved, and a seal is affixed over the signature of the technician on the customer document.
